How to FTP your HTML files to your Web Site Using MSIE
It is a very easy process to send files from your local computer to your web site using Microsoft© Internet Explorer (MSIE, version 4.0 or higher). You use FTP (File Transfer Protocol) just like you normally would with a specific FTP application.

The only difference is that there is no additional cost and it doesn't have all the "buttons & bells" as some of the software does.
First, in Windows, open the folder on your computer that contains the files that you wish to transfer, or upload. Then you can minimize this window because you won't need it right now.

Next, open MSIE as you normally would. In the address bar type your URL with one difference. Start it with "ftp://" instead of "http://" and then press Enter.

You will get an FTP server login as shown below.
Enter your "User name" and "Password" in the text boxes provided and then press Enter or click the "Log On" button.

After you have gotten your user name and password correct you will arrive at the main web site folder. You many need to select the proper folder in which to upload your files. Be careful you don't copy files to the wrong folder. It can be corrected but it could be a real pain. If you don't know the proper folder then check with your Web Host for that information, just like your user name and password.
The correct folder that I need to open (and chances are good that you will too) is called the "public_html" folder (underlined in red). This is where most sites store their pages.

Now that you are in the correct Host Folder (on left, below) open your Computer Folder that you minimized earlier (on right).

If you can't see the folders in the host window you need to change a setting in MSIE:

  1. In MSIE, choose Tools | Internet Options from the menu bar.
  2. Select the Advanced tab.
  3. Scroll down the list and put a check mark by the "Enable folder view for ftp sites" option.
  4. Click OK.
  5. You may have to refresh the page to get them to show up, but they should be there now.

All that is left for you to do is to Drag-and-Drop the files from your computer to the web server and you are done.

Note: You can drag the either up to the server or down to your computer. You can also drag an entire folder or just one file at a time.
